Paper jam message when no paper

It is an old HP 2400 printer that I REALLY need. I put one page through to print which worked but it now puts 2 blank pages through at a time. It says there’s a paper jam although there is no paper in it, if I press OK it sends two blank pages through. It is not connected to the internet. I have tried all known ideas and have discovered that the springs behind the ink cartridges have become unattached, does anyone know how to refix them as I now think this is what the problem is?
