Difficulties getting back of case off phone

I am trying to get inside my Samsung Galaxy S7. I am using an iOpener to heat the adhesive and an iSclack to pull at the back of the case. However, I am making no headway in finding an edge to slice the adhesive. I have used the iOpener properly (heat 30s, use/wait 10mins, 30s again, etc.) and the phone feels warm but I cannot seem to pull apart the case at all. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

Did you take out the SIM card tray? Do you have a heat gun or hair dryer?

door

@andrewsawesome I believe I took the SIM card tray out. Would that affect the ability to get the back off? I don't have either, but one of my next steps would be to find one.

@edlugan late but no. Taking out the sim card tray has nothing at all to do with removing the back cover.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 has really strong adhesive, so I would recommend getting a heat gun(SMD Rework Station) or heat plate. This video might help.

Hi Andrew, thank you for the reply and sorry for the late response. I tried an (admittedly aged) heat gun with no success. Unless I find myself with access to a better heat gun or heat plate in the future it may remain shut unfortunately.

With the amount of Galaxy's I've done battery replacements in (My favorite's being the S7 and S8 series), I can suggest these steps.

  1. Whilst the iOpener is great, don't get me wrong. I personally find using a hair dryer (On High Heat) or a Heat Gun always does the trick and in a lot less time. If you have access to either, heat up the Rear Glass for around 45s or 1 min.
  2. After that, attempt to get a guitar pick (Or other slim durable material) in-between the adhesive and glass. I find around the sides of the S7/S7 Edge are the easiest to get my pick into. Hopefully, the original 1 minute of heat should be enough to pop it off. If you're still finding it difficult to find an area of access, you should go back and heat up the glass for slightly longer.
  3. Congrats, it's off. Have a break, and take some time to clean up the glass (If shattered in the process).

Remember, you will need to clean off the old adhesive on the mid-frame (and rear glass if you're reusing it) to ensure a perfect fit when you go to put it back together!
