MacBook Pro wont boot up in any mode, no chime, blank screen but runni

After my original HDD started to fail, I upgraded to new battery, 2x8 (16GB) of RAM, and dual 1TB SSD’s.

I tried to use a bootable USB installer to install a fresh copy of macOS and when I power up I got no chime, would not boot up in any mode, just a blank screen but it was running and it seemed to read the USB because it lit up while it was being read.

I tried SMC and PRAM resets and wiggled all connections and swapped around the SSD’s and RAM and nothing made any difference.

Just the same, no chime, blank screen. Would not go into safe mode, recovery mode or internet recovery mode and wouldn’t even show the USB drive.

Am I gonna need a new logic board? I was really excited to get this thing started again.

Thanks for your input.

Let’s reduce things to a simpler config. Pull one of the SO-DIMM’s and fully disconnect the SSD’s. Also try using your original RAM

At this point your bootable USB drive should boot your system. You may need to press the Option key to enter into the Startup Manager

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

Are you sure the USB OS installer you created is working and is the correct OS version? The highest macOS you can run on your system is Catalina. Frankly, I would stick with Sierra or Mojave if you want to get APFS. SATA based systems run better with HFS+ (Sierra)

Let us know how it goes!

So i tried what you suggested with no luck. It starts up and just stays on this navy blue screen, no chime, will not boot into any mode and will not respond to any key commands. I cannot get to startup manager with the usb but the usb light is lit up so its like its reading but not doing anything. I tried option, then tried C, then command R, then command option R, then S, then V, then X, then shift and all did nothing and had zero response. Ive tried unplugging the display and power and did nothing. I frequently tried these commands with different hardware configurations and did smc and pram resets all with no luck. it may have been trying to fix itself or it may have been a fluke, but when i tried to get into safe mode, just holding shift and nothing else for about 5mins, the computer restarted itself 2 or 3 times, but no change. Thank you so so much for the advice, i appreciate your help. Thank you. Any other ideas?hoping not the logic board. Maybe screen/display or something to do with the video output?

Also, i did confirm the bootable usb was the correct os. But now you have me thinking and i may switch to sierra.

@Ryan Duggan - Blue Screen is one of the symptoms of a failing discrete GPU failure in this series. That would point to the logic board failing ;-{
