Why can't I access recovery mode anymore?

I had an issue with my phone saying iphone disabled connect to itunes, when I did it told me to update my iphone 6 software with a 2.85GB update to restore my iphone. When I downloaded the software update and updated my iphone using itunes on my laptop, suddenly after the installation my iphone went completely black no wallpaper. The only writing I could see are the words “iphone disabled connect to itunes” with a blue highlight moving sideways. I tried to do a hard factory reset but it doesn't show the turn off button anymore and I can't seem to access the factory reset mode anymore. Please help im frustrated. Thank you.

You may have to use DFU mode to reset the device, however this will restore the device and delete any data that was on there. To perform the DFU reset, you need to hold the power and home button down until the screen turns off while it’s plugged into your computer, and then continue holding the home button until iTunes or your Mac recognises the device and gives you the option to restore.
