Replacement disc drive making a whirring noise when looking for disc
Hi there. I bought an Xbox one S with a faulty disc drive. I bought a replacement disc drive and managed to replace the old drive with the new one. Done the usual thing, unsoldered the daughter board from the old drive and soldered it onto the new drive. It tested it all out and the drive functions as it should, reading discs normally, however it make a very odd, loud whirring noise whenever a disc is being fed into the drive. Even when there is no disc inside it will periodically (about every 10-15 mins) would make that same loud noise )as if the disc drive is powering down since there is no disc to read).
I should note that this noise is NOT the typical grinding noise coming from a lot of Xbox One disc drives, it's a very different noise altogether.
So thinking that I had bought a faulty replacement drive, I lived with this noise for a while. Recently I decided to buy another replacement disc drive. This time, I checked that it was fully working and didn't have any odd or loud noises coming from it multiple times. It all checked out and operated as expected. So I swapped the daughter board from the old drive into the new one. As soon as I switched the daughter board and tested the drive out on the Xbox, the exact same noise was back.
I'm now thinking that both the replacement drives don't actually have anything wrong with them. I may be doing something wrong when taking the drives apart and putting them together, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. Note that the drive actually works fine, as in the console recognises discs, can play them and read from them without issues. It's just that noise is back.
I have checked where the noise is originating from, and from what I can tell, it looks like it's coming from some of the gears on the side of the disc drive (the side which has a bunch of gears and two black, rubber band like strings). I'll try and attach a video if possible.
So if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
