Brother HL-L2360DW keypad unresponsive only wifi button lit

Have a previously functioning Brother HL-L2360DW printer that after plugging into outlet and pressing on button only wifi button is immediately lit, there is no mechanical cycling noise, no characters in LCD display—wifi light does not go off when button pressed, does not power off when power button pressed, none of the other buttons do anything. When unit unplugged then plugged in again, wifi light remains off until power button is depressed. I tried holding power button down then plugging unit in with power button still depressed without any change. I took the unit apart following service manual directions (found on internet), pulled keybutton circuit board, cleaned it as well as the rubber keypad, checked the ribbon cables and reseated them, reassembled without any change.

Does anyone have any idea of where to go from here? On ebay I see that there are keybutton circuit boards and other parts, do these symptoms point to one particular problem.

I really like this printer and would like to fix and continue to use it.

Thank you in advance.

Update (01/11/2021)

Actually am able to get unit into USERS mode but unable to reset from there. Only way to clear users mode from lcd is to unplug unit. Any one else experience this?

This also happened to me with my 2370 couple of weeks ago . I went trough the menu and did a factory reset and then I had to connect it to my PC through USB and go through the Brother setup software again to reconnect it to my WIFI .

How did you do the factory reset? I can only get "users mode" to show up in the lcd screen.

Are you able to complete these steps?

“If you wish to reset the print server back to its default factory settings (resetting all information such as the password and IP address information), please follow the steps below:

Press the Up or Down arrow key (+ or -) to choose the Network option, and then press OK.

Press the UP or Down arrow key (+ or -) to choose the Network Reset option, and then press OK. Press the Up arrow key (+).

Or these steps:

1. Press and hold the power key on the control panel to power off the machine.

2. Press down the GO button and power the machine on.

3. Keep pressing GO until the Toner, Drum, and Paper LEDs are on.

4. Release GO. All LEDs will be off.

5. Press GO ten times. Your machine's printer settings will be reset.

Thank you for your reply. Couldn't get the display to read anything but "users mode". I tried the following without success--

1. With the cover open, power off the machine by pressing the power button until the LCD is blank.

2. Press and hold the GO button while powering on the printer.

3. Release the GO button. 'Users Mode' will show on the display.

4. Press the GO button 9 times (also tried 10 times). The WiFi button will blink each time the GO button is pressed.

5.Close the front cover.

6. Press the GO button 3 times. After a short pause the display will show 'Please wait'.

The printer used to make a brief mechanical sound (like a motor turning) after powering on, now there is just silence when powering on.

Not sure if a capacitor went bad, I disassembled the machine but only checked to ensure that the ribbon cables were seated properly. I should have examined the circuit boards while it was apart (2020 hindsight).

Have you tried steps 1-5 but with the cover closed? I believe it needs to be closed.
