Webcam error after replacing (NDC001)

Hi,

So I have been recently having some issues with the webcam on this Macbook Air (Early 2014) where it would work, but the image would break up and it was a bit hit and miss whether or not you’d actually get a clear image.

So I replaced the webcam, and since then, the webcam is not recognised at all, and I get an NCD001 error when running Apple Diagnostics. I can confirm that the camera cable is connected, the battery was disconnected whilst replacing, and the cable for the webcam seems to be in very good condition.

Does anyone have any idea what I can try next?

What part did you replace the camera unit at the top or the cable which leads out the hinge?

Also what was the part source?

I replaced the camera unit with an identical from a company called Replace Base. But even if I plug the old one in, the camera is no longer recognised at all.

I think you need to replace the cable as that’s likely the issue not the camera unit its self.

Here’s one source for the cable 13” acBook Air Hinge/Clutch - iSight/Antenna Cables (13-17), Apple P/N 661-02397

So lets trace out the pathway on how the camera is connected

So the first point is the lid cable connecting to the main logic board and then its signals are passed to the I/O board where the USB hub is located. Then the USB signal is sent back across to the PCH chip.

So we will need to look at the I/O board and its cable (I would check the cable first):

Thanks for your help, I am I right in saying to replace that, I would also need to remove the display from the lid?

Sadly yes its a bit of a job ;-{ The other option is just replacing the full lid assembly.

Hi Dan, I purchased the part as mentioned above and fitted it, but still seem to get the same result. Do you gave any further thoughts on what may be causing the issue?

door

mmm.... Then the I/O logic board its self has an issue within the built-in USB hub (what the camera is wired to. This would be very rare condition!
