Dead MacBook, is it possible to retrieve the SSD?

Hi! My friend has a dead 2017 13" MacBook Pro Non-Touchbar (Function Keys). They had some important files on the SSD, but drive recovery costs about $2000. I was wondering if it was possible to retrieve the SSD and the data on the SSD from the MacBook Pro and read it (via Windows or some non Apple device preferably).

Can’t find reliable answers when searching, sorry if this is a duplicate question!

What exactly do you mean by “dead” like it won’t turn on? Also what year is it? In 2015-16, the new MacBook logic board designs have shifted from the removable HDD/SSD drives to the none-removable SSD chips.

Sorry, I had specified 2017 13" MacBook Pro Non-Touchbar, I figured it would reflect in my post.

Yes, that data can be recovered. Take it to a tech that has a compatible Mac so the SSD flash drive can be put in it and your data recovered. Unfortunately they do not make an external enclosure that this type of drive can be put into (that I am aware of).
