iFixIt battery is charging slowly, laptop doesn't turn on unplugged

I recently bought a replacement battery for my 9350 after I noticed the original was bulging. After installation, I noticed that after a whole day of charging, the battery still hadn’t hit full capacity. Furthermore, the laptop is unable to power on without the AC adapter, and the moment it is removed, the laptop turns off.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I’ve tried uninstalling the battery driver, doing power troubleshoot, updating BIOS, etc.

I have a hunch that this is because the voltage in the replacement battery is 7.2 V while it’s 7.6 V in the original.

To make sure I didn’t break anything, I reconnected the old battery and turned it on without the AC adapter and everything was working fine.

Hi @jjwang01 ,

You may have got a faulty battery.

If Win10 is installed, try creating a Win10 battery report and check the status of the new battery.

I wouldn't have thought that 0.4V would make that kind of difference as to whether it starts or not

Not exactly sure what to look for in the battery report based on the article, but it says that the current estimate of battery life is around 9:14 for the new battery.

What does it show in Device Manager > Battery > right click ACPI Compliant battery > Properties about the status of the battery?

It shows "This device is working properly"

Not sure if it helps, but my laptop has a very chemical like smell ever since installing the battery, but I checked the battery to make sure that nothing's leaking.

I'm still wondering if the battery is OK. It may be that it is failing under load as it appears that the software recognizes it OK and it charges but that's all.

As the old battery still works OK when it is reinstalled, perhaps all you can do is get a replacement from ifixit and try that. They do guarantee their parts.
