Can I upgrade my 17” MacBook Pro to be new again?

Can I upgrade this computer so it has all the attributes of a current Model except for the working parts such as the keyboard and screen , thus replacing with new up to date technology ie: logic board , drives, ports, video card etc…? And just to be clear I am a little bit able to do some if not all the work providing I have detailed instructions with pics if possible. Any and all help would be more than appreciated.

Sorry you are limited to the logic boards designed for your system (the ID identifier is the key).

Depending on which one you have you might be able to upgrade it to a more powerful CPU as well as support more RAM as well as a faster SATA interface SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) over the slower SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive (SSHD or SSD).

Maxing out the RAM and putting in a SSD is about all you can do

Review the EveryMac listing here All of the A1297 models

As an example, the earliest model: 17” MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo (Early 2009) to the last one Apple produced: 17” MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz Core i7 (Late 2011) it quite a range of systems! Depending on which one you have you might have a few options.

You also won’t be able to run the newer macOS releases and some OS features won’t work.
