Why is my MacBook not turning on?

My Macbook had the GPU issues, which I managed to fix.

But now it has a another problem.

I was working on the laptop then I went to make some food. I left the laptop on the sleep mode. After I came back about an hour, it never turned on.

When I press the power button, the CPU fan and the DVD drive also run.

  • I checked the RAM, the harddrive. Everything seems to be fine.
  • The CPU fan is also running.
  • The battery is also supplying the power.
  • The DVD drive is also working fine.
  • But the display is not showing anything. Only sometimes it gives a grey light and then turns off automatically.
  • The light on the Capslock button and the Logo at the back of display is not turning on.

I have tried fn+control+command+power, shift+fn+control+option+command+powerkey, ressting the SMC, safe-mode, single-user-mode, actually I have done trying every possible thing. But it is not helping. May be I am doing the fn+ctrl+cmd stuff not the right way??

And sometimes the display gives a grey light too (only sometimes). That means the logicboard is also not damaged (Maybe).

And during these lockdown time the repaircentres are also closed.

Can anybody help me please..??

Thanks in advance….

Ouch! It does sound like your logic board has just given up on you. I think its time to bite the bullet here, either get a new logic board (which I’m sure you can put in) or buy a replacement system (hopefully a used system).

I would make the jump to a better logic board if you want something thats going to last and gives you back the better graphics. As it turns out the 2012 model has a much better logic board! I would go with it:

Here’s the guide to put it in MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Logic Board Replacement

Sadly, you will need new memory as well - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM’s

There is a slight modification needed as the newer LVDS socket uses a slightly narrower tang on the cable end.

You might find a used 2012 MacBook Pro in good shape as your other option. Then you can transfer your HDD over to the replacement system

Hey! Thanks for the help!

But I cleaned the logic board with rubbing alcohol and left it overnight on the coll and dry surface. Then today I gave one more try with shift+fn+control+option+command+power keys combination. And it worked.

But surely thanks a lot for the hard working!!
