Why did my MacBook Pro switch itself off and won't turn on again?
Hi, I've got a faithful Macbook Pro Mid 2012 that shut down on Tuesday whilst I was working from home. The charger had been plugged in 10 minutes before as the battery was running low.
When I pressed the power button to turn it back on there was no response: the light at the front did not come on, nothing displayed on the screen and no mechanical sound. I tried with and without the charger plugged in.
The battery reader on the side lights up and reads at 40%. This hasn't dropped in over 24 hours. I've tried an SMC reset 3 times. I've also taken the back off, disconnected the battery, held the power button for 5 seconds, plugged the battery back in and tried the power button with no result.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting/diagnostic tips?
Thanks

You'll need to open the system up to inspect the logic board. Do you see any burnt components or staining?

Hi, I had a good look at the logic board I can see no visible burnt components or staining. Even though the battery reader is reading 40% (still), when I plug the charger in it lights up green as if it’s fully charged. Is this of any significance?

@dgud - Lets get a better view of things here. Install this gem of an app CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here one with the charger connected and one with it disconnected after waiting a good 5 minutes Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag.
