Possible Replacement Logic Boards
So, my brother tried and failed to re-apply the thermal paste since he kept over heating when ever the computer was put under heavy load.
When he re-assembled the imac it did not boot up. I found he left out the “spring plate” from the CPU off and most likely over tightened the CPU heatsink and damaged the board to board connection where the cpu makes contact with the logic board. Some of the little contact points look to have been squished down. This is the only part of the entire process he seemed to have made a mistake on.
So I suggested we just replace the logic board. His part number is 820-5029-A. The Imac is late 2014 with the upgraded ram and GPU. At this point I do not really care if he gets the same GPU. I can not find any 820-5029-A for less than $1500. I can just find a working used version of this mac at that cost.
Will a 820-00292-A work as a replacement for 820-5029-A? If so I can transfer the cpu and hard drive over for him. I really wish he would have asked me before trying and ultimately breaking his imac. The seller list the 00292 as Late 2014 Imac 27”…
Thank you in advance for any input.
