Possible Replacement Logic Boards

So, my brother tried and failed to re-apply the thermal paste since he kept over heating when ever the computer was put under heavy load.

When he re-assembled the imac it did not boot up. I found he left out the “spring plate” from the CPU off and most likely over tightened the CPU heatsink and damaged the board to board connection where the cpu makes contact with the logic board. Some of the little contact points look to have been squished down. This is the only part of the entire process he seemed to have made a mistake on.

So I suggested we just replace the logic board. His part number is 820-5029-A. The Imac is late 2014 with the upgraded ram and GPU. At this point I do not really care if he gets the same GPU. I can not find any 820-5029-A for less than $1500. I can just find a working used version of this mac at that cost.

Will a 820-00292-A work as a replacement for 820-5029-A? If so I can transfer the cpu and hard drive over for him. I really wish he would have asked me before trying and ultimately breaking his imac. The seller list the 00292 as Late 2014 Imac 27”…

Thank you in advance for any input.

How about this board 27” iMac 5K Retina Logic Board, 4.0 GHz i7 QC, M290X 2GB, Apple P/N 661-00193 This is a used board and only costs $705.00 USD. And you get a much more powerful i7 over your i5 CPU!!

His Computer already has the 4.0 quad i-7

So will this 00193 fit fine? I found a working 0529 for $400

820-5029-A is the board number not its given CPU and GPU configuration. All of the A1419 use this board. Here's a full listing of boards reference the Apple P/N to identify which layout one. iMac 27" Retina 5K Late 14/Mid 15 listing

Thank you so much or the answers. I do not see a list fyi.

One last question. he currently has

4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7

AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5

So if I just wanted to get his Computer running and did not need the upgraded GPU could any working 0529 board work ? I would just be putting the cpu back in "correctly this time" and wondering if that would be compatible?

Again thank you so much for answering my misinformed question. I honestly do not care if he ends up with a slower Imac just as long as I get it back and running. I will end up with the one you suggested most likely and just sell the left over i7 cpu in the open market plus the damaged logic board..
