Display screen with "Red static colored"

I started to see “red static” on the borders and anywhere there's black on the screen. Doesn't show up on the Mac OS X boot screen. Pretty sure it's a hardware issue and not software since it goes away when I close the lid about 3/4 of the way down, but the problem is getting worse every day. I suspect that is the ribbon cable that connects my display to the logic board , any suggestion about how to replace it are welcome!

Gekozen oplossing

Try starting up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key on start up. This will confirm if you have a hardware or software issue if the symptom disappears.

If it’s gone, install a good “Paid For” antivirus like Symantec and run it.

Ok, now lets see if we can narrow it down. Hook up an external display and see it it appears on the external. If so, you have a GPU issue, if not then we go to the display.

So, Purple is Goggles screen of death ?

Red is just a color it's not a sign of a OS failure its a sign of a video signal getting messed up.
