Updating with out connecting to power

I just got a new ipod touch, so my ipod needs to run an update before it can finish installing. But my ipod has been sitting at 20% for the past couple if days but won't lose any power. Now do I plug it into the charging cord and finish updating or continue playing the waiting game. I am worried that it will screw up the battery if I do charge it( like a previous ipod I had). Any insight will be greatly appreciated

Connecting your iPod Touch to power won’t effect the updater process if the updater was working, which its not!

For some reason it’s stuck! It sounds like it lost access to the internet in the middle of the update.

So before we can fix your iPod Touch we need to fix your internet connection it was using. As your device is dependent on WiFi you need to make sure you are near the WiFi AP you have setup in your home. You also want to make sure you don’t overload your WiFi network and others aren’t interfering with the band you are using.

Living in a dense city can make this harder! You may want to setup your MacBook with a WiFi monitoring app like this one WiFi Explorer. You may want to alter your WiFi routers settings to a different band range which is less used. You may need to talk with your internet provider if the throughput is not steady. Use an app like this on your Mac Network Speed Tester to help you gage things.

Alternatively, go visit an Apple Store letting them help you with the upgrade.
