MacBook Pro 2011 No Output besides headphones

My MacBook Pro 8,2’s speakers do not work in OSX. Under output it says Digital Output. There is a red light in the headphone jack. The machine does work with headphones but only in one ear. What is weird is that the speakers are working as they make the chime when booting up and they work when running Windows.

Edit: I did try reseting the SMC and PRAM

Within your headphone jack is a set of switches

Either the contacts got rotated or are dirty. Use a toothpick and a good magnifier & light to inspect the contacts.

The red light means your digital audio out has switched on. You can insert a plastic toothpick in the hole and try and switch it off. The switch should be at the 3 o'clock position and go towards the 6 o'clock position. Some people also have had luck inserting their headphone jack and pulling out a few times. Another recent report was that inserting the headphone jack and turning it in the hole helped.

Blowing hard into the hole has also been reported for a fix.

I got the red light to go away. But the issue still persists. However what I have found is that if I pull my headphone out of the jack partway, the speakers come back.
