Where are you getting it from? And what is your exact system.

What is giving you the error the OS or the web browser you are using to access it.

I am downloading it from a mid 2011 desktop, the App Store is giving me the error

@random_user_101 - Which Mid 2011 system a Mac mini, 21.5" iMac or a 27" iMac?

The computer that I want it for it a early 2011 17" MacbookPro Non Unibody. It has 10.5 because I had to restore it. I do not think that 10.5 internet recovery. Also, 10.11 is the latest compatible version for it.

The 2011 17" MacBook Pro is a Unibody the older 2006 ~ 2008 where based on the older frame. Is that what you have?

How about just telling us the exact model. How about plugging in your systems S/N here and tell us what you have [https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup...|EveryMac - Lookup}

It’s likely Apple’s App Store copy of El Capitan has been removed if you can’t get it from the store without an error.

If you are able to get the download to complete it will give you an error as it will automatically try to run the OS installer and as your system (if its a different system than the one you are trying to install it to) you are using is newer than what the OS-X is able to support it is popping an error. After exiting the installer you should be able to find the download file if you can then you can still make the OS installer following this guide How to make a bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer drive Otherwise you’ll need to find someone with it already.

Now we have a second problem! These older Core2Duo systems don’t support USB boot. You’ll need to either make a FireWire bootable drive or use a bootable CD disk to install El Capitan

Thanks for your help! I will try that. I might just give up and pay $20 for the 10.6cd

Try going under the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner to the APP store, log in, go to Purchased and it should be available there since you have installed it before.
