MacBook Ran Out of Battery, then chargers stopped working!

Hi,

I’ve had my mid-2012 15 inch unibody Macbook Pro since 2012 and it’s been a champ, withstanding daily use of up to 7+ hours. Only issue I ever had with it was a wifi ribbon that needed replacing a year ago. Yesterday night, I was busy working and lost track of the charge and it died. Plugged it into my charger, but the charger light wouldn’t come on and there was no evidence that it was charging. Not to worry, I had another charger and tried with a different outlet. This charger’s light blinked green three times before going dark again. Still nothing. I unscrewed the bottom and disconnected the battery before trying to plug it in and power it on, but still nothing. I’ve run the laptop before with the battery cable out so this gave me pause. My concern now is that its either an issue with the magsafe port or the logic board, and I’m praying its not the latter as I leave for an overseas trip in two days and need my laptop to do work there. As a result of the battery being drained, I can’t do an SMC or PRAM reset and can’t run any diagnostics. Any advice would be appreciated.

With the green light blinking and it not charging my first suspect is the Mag-Safe board. Here’s how to replace it:

Just to clarify the three blinks are spread out over ten seconds or so and I can't boot with the battery unplugged from the logic board. Shouldn't it still boot if it's only the battery being the issue?

If you had a newer retina model then you can but the older Unibodies need the battery.

I ordered a new magsafe board which should be arriving today. Checked the internals out yesterday and the battery is visibly in ok shape. No bulging or damage to the cord. The magsafe board on the other hand had what looked like rust on some parts of the board. I'm thinking that's the culprit. The battery didn't just give out randomly, it died at 0% and when I plugged it in at 1% to try and charge, no charger light came on and it didn't recognize the charger. The magafe board's port to the charge is also worn and has a crack.

While the battery may look OK it's getting long in the tooth. Batteries also wear out. The Blinking LED is the battery needs service warning. If you can get your system to boot up you'll see the bad battery icon symbol.

I replaced the DC in board myself last month and it started working fine again. Ran diagnostics on the battery and coconut battery says it’s at 86% health.

Today I have the same problem. Computer ran out of charge as I was using it out of the house and it won’t charge anymore with the same blinking lights issue.
