Why does the Imaq 22 inch model give out electric shocks

I had my IMAC computer on but wasn’t actually using at the time.

I reached over to get some papers on the desk to the left of the IMAC

As my hand passed close to the bottom part of the monitor, I received an electric shock. I did not realise what it was at the time. It was only when I passed my hand over the same spot after having retrieved my papers I received another electric shock.

I felt very disorientated afterwards and had to stop what I was doing. I experienced waves of pain and a throbbing sensation in my right hand. I had to take pain relief. The next day when I woke up the pain in my hand was excruciating and necessitated a trip to the doctors.

I had my sockets tested. It is appropriately earthed.

I checked with the electricity company for groundwork surges. There were none

My electricity usage was low on the day

I spoke to several engineers who confirmed that no software exists which can go back in time to find out what caused the shock.

Has this happened to anyone else.?

Mary, you have a short in your iMac. Please do not use it until you get it fixed.

From your posts on other questions you state this is brand new machine but you now have it listed as a 2007 machine.

Please give us the serial number from the bottom of your stand after you unplug it from the wall.

What does having a short in your IMAC mean. I have had my sockets tested and used an outlest tesing device. Both came back negative in that the electricity supplies were functioning as normal.

The machine was tested for static . This came back as no fault detected. A. replaced the IMAC, it was six months old at the time, a 2018 model but they have refused to say what was wrong with it.

A short circuit (sometimes abbreviated to short or s/c) is an electrical circuit that allows a current to travel along an unintended path with no or very low electrical impedance. This results in an excessive current flowing through the circuit.
