17" MacBook Unicorn Help

For starter my complete specs are below… AND I bought this machine new and it is pristine and quite awesome but I recently decided to repurpose it and found it is running a 32-bit version of OS X 10.7.5. The 64-bit ones say they are not compatible with this machine and dont want to install but it meets all the requirements to do so…

Primary goal is to run Plex on it either in a VM instance or in mac OS. Everything new is 64-bit only so you name it, I’ve had no luck with it. So I am wondering if the community here can tell me if this was like a fake 64 bit core 2 duo released to placate the people who were itching for the Core 2 duo? From what i can tell it wont run a 64-bit os despite the C2d. Thoughts? By the way - one more unicorn fact - It has 3 gigs of ram… Hows that?

Dan - Thats where i got my specs I posted. Thanks. It should note specifically that this machine is a unicorn in that its really a core duo with a core 2 duo processor that cannot be used as 64-bt like every other computer on the planet with a C2D… We just put the C2D in it so we would have it in our line before anyone else...

Dan - I Suspected this with the docs above but have read about 64-bit windows and ubuntu being installed on it. But if it cant run 64-bit mac - it cant run 64 bit windows or linux, right?

Thanks, Clay

What do you mean by 'Unicorn' I've never heard the term. So you desoldered the old processor and put in a Core 2 Duo ?

Sadly, your system is strictly 32bit as the BIOS (EFI) is only 32-bit and is not capable of booting into 64-bit mode. The highest it can go is Lion OS-X 10.7.5. I don’t know of any way to get this system to run 64bit without running into EFI issues.
