Is a 2.5" WD Blue 3D NAND SSD backward Compatible

Is the WDS500G2B0A backward compatible to 3.0 GB/s SATA II?

If not what 2.5” SSD drives are backward compatible? What are you recommending?

@mayer - As far as I know none of the current WD drives offer SATA II support (2.5” or 3.5”).

Samsung is the only SSD that states SATA II support as far as I know Samsung 860 EVO

For HDD’s at this time only the Seagate 3.5” FireCuda and Barracuda offer SATA II support. Both the current 2.5” Seagate drives are SATA III only

That's really great to know! I have used probably a dozen of the 860 EVO & QVO drives. I now know what to keep in stock that will work with 6.0 & 3.0, & 1.5.

QVO - InterfaceSATA 6 Gb/s Interface, compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s & SATA 1.5 Gb/s interface

@mayer - The newer Samsung 860 QVO drive is also a good drive! But, I would only recommend using it in the older Mac's as it has a shorter lifespan and is a slower drive. For heavy use systems stick with the 860 EVO.

According to Datasheet of WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD , note2 said that

Backward compatible to SATA II and I. It will also depend on BIOS 0f the computer and driver must be update.

@Nikom Pakabunto - Well that is a bit of a surprise! WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD They hid it well in the tiny notes section! None of the current crop of WD HDD's offer backward support.

I doubt they will care this forward, most drives even Seagate is dropping support for the older SATA interfaces as the number of still running systems which need these slower drives (fixed or auto sense) is fewer year over year. The cost of the tech as well as the development QC making sure it works is not worth the costs for them.
