Can I retrieve an object from the headphone jack hole?

A bead fell in the headphone jack hole of my Mac and got stuck in there. Any recommendations for how to get it out? My attempts have given me no results and I think the bead could have gone further in.

If we knew your specific machine, we could give you better advice. Some Mac have a separate I/O board.

Ouch, bad luck! If it’s made of metal a magnet might do the trick. If not I’d try sucking it out with a vacuum cleaner or trying blowing it out with canned air, it depends on the size of the bead. If you have a very steady hand you may also try a broken toothpick with some glue on the tip. As a last resort you might buy very fine pointed tweezers such as the ones used for phone repairs. Wish you luck..

I would second the glue idea, while reemphasizing the steady hand! You don't want to get any glue on the sides of the jack, otherwise you'd just as well have a bead in there because the glue will get in the way of the headphone plug!

It’s easier to take out the headphone jack and operate on it standalone.

Or just replace it since you already removed it from the computer.
