iMac late 2006 EMC 2111 issue with graphics card flickering

my iMac 2006 - 24" - BTO/CTO - iMac6,1 - A1200 - 2111 has a issue with the video card or screen, it flickers and causes the computer to freeze when playing videos too, even shows green lines across the videos i make with iMovie.

i read around the net that its attached to the mother board, i got this off ebay so i assume it was used a lot, is there a way to fix this?

Check on the bottom of the stand to see exactly which machine you have. Based on photographs from those whom have disassembled the iMac "Core Duo" and White iMac Core 2 Duo models, the video is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be removed after purchase, with the exception of the White iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.16 24-Inch.

Although Apple makes no mention of it in technical documents, a number of third-parties have reported that the video in the White iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.16 24-Inch system uses a MXM module, so it theoretically could be upgraded, although to date, MXM modules for purchase by individuals are few and far between.

Mayer is right.. have done a few of these myself. The install isn't too hard if you know what you're doing. Putting a 17 mobo in won't work at all though, if only for practical reasons, you won't be able to fit it in due to different bracket and screw placements.

What you need is a new graphics chip, either the 7300gt or the much better 7600gt. However, these are both hard to come by and can be very expensive when you do.

If you're still around I can offer you a replacement for around $150 with a trade in of your old card.

Let me know.

Bad video cards. Replaced mine a long time ago and it is still going strong.
