iPhone 7 screen replacement: home button not working. Try new screen?

I just replaced my iPhone 7 screen that was cracked. The replacement screen works but the home button doesn’t. No clicking and no Touch ID. When I put home button back on original screen that’s cracked Touch ID works, but no clicking. On both I tried loosening and tightening the screws to no avail. Is it safe to say I likely damaged the home button? Or based on what I wrote would it be worth it to buy an additional replacement to try it again?

You’ll need a magnifier to check if you damaged the replacement screen home button flex cable but it may be defective too..in any case a replacement screen should fix the issue.

Okay. I have order a higher end replacement screen since it’s worth it for me to find out at this point. I’ll post an update when I try that. Thanks for your advice

If you have tested the home button on your original cracked screen and the touch ID functions but does not “click” then the home button is damaged and replacing the screen probably wont fix it. The home button has a U10 IC on the home button flex that if replaced should fix this issue as long as there is no other damage to the home button. You will need to have the home button sent to a repair centre that can perform micro soldering and can replace that IC for you.
