Apple logo jumping up and down.

Hello all,

I have a situation I haven’t seen before. A customer brought me an iPhone SE with a cracked screen. I put a replacement screen from iFixit on and when I turn it on, the Apple logo jumps up and down on the screen, the screen dims, gets statically, and just acts funky. I haven’t waited for it to boot all the way.

When I put the same (new) screen on a different iPhone SE, it works fine.

When I put the old cracked screen back on the SE I’m working on, it works fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mitch

Did you try a second replacement screen?

door

I haven't yet. I only have the one new screen from iFixit. It's just odd that the replacement screen works fine on one of two iPhone SE's. The replacement screen goes wacky ONLY on the phone I'm trying to put a new screen on. The cracked screen works fine when put back on the phone. No wackiness.

The issue is usually* because the replacement aftermarket screen is not compatible on the SE model.

You'll need to source another replacement screen that is compatible for the SE.

For example you can use original 5S or SE screen on an SE.

It is a SE replacement screen from iFixit that works fine when put on another SE phone.

Ok that is weird, the only thing I can think of is the logic board having a fault but that is ruled out as the old screen still works on it.

Might be a shot in the dark but is the phone up to date on the iOS software?

door

Exactly! Weird. I've replaced hundreds of screens and have never encountered this. The software was up to date. I gave her the phone back because she had to leave the country today. I wanted to bring this to the forum because I have never seen or heard of this so I thought someone else may have. Thank you for the responses.

It sounds like it might possibly be damage to the phone’s logic board, possibly around the connection pins, you can try cleaning the connector pins with 99.5% isopropyl alcohol.

Hm okay, well you could try a hard reset when the device boots.
