My calculator shows ERR: INVALID when trying to calculate Y of graph

My calculator is a TI-84 Plus Pocket SE. Basically as the title says, let’s use Y=X graph as an example. If I have my window values of X set to Xmin = -10 and Xmax = 10, and I graph the function Y=X and use the “calc value” function to try to calculate for a x value beyond the X window values (for e.g x=11) I will get an ERR: INVALID.

Is it impossible to calculate y values for X that is beyond your currently set X window values? Or there is something wrong with my calculator settings and how do I correct it? Thanks alot.

Yes, the calculator throws a fit when you try to calculate a Y value using an X value that’s beyond the window range.

To fix this, I believe you need to zoom out by pressing [zoom] then press [3]. You can also just adjust your window range. Or even let the calculator decide what the best window range will by pressing [zoom] then [0] (it’s not great at deciding, but normally it gives a good range)

Also, a small tip, [trace] can do the same function as the ‘value’ option under [calc]. Just press [trace], then press [X,T,θ ,n]. The prompt for you to enter a value will appear.
