Screen appears to all black but not from screen rupture
When I try to turn the calculator on the screen flashes from solid black to normal but the calculator will not function because of this.

Some more information would be appreciated. Do you mean that the cursor still flashes but none of the buttons work? You may want to try replacing the batteries including the backup battery with fresh ones.
If you get a constant, solid black screen when you turn it back on, press [2nd] then release it, then hold the down arrow key until the contrast is where you want it.
Have any of the guides for your calculator helped?

It is not from contrast. Now, instead of being all black, the screen is glitchy with unreadable black areas scattered everywhere. I replaced both the back up battery and regular batteries.
Oh! Then it may be from a degraded ribbon cable. The TI 83 is notorious for this issue. There's a guide for repairing that here: https://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic... and a guide for taking the calculator apart here: Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Motherboard & Screen Replacement
