The Early 2009 Mac Pro—also known as the Mac Pro 4,1—introduced Intel's Nehalem architecture to Apple's line of professional desktop computers in March 2009. The Mac Pro 5,1 used the same interior design but received further CPU updates in 2010 and 2012.

Upgrade CPU for Mac Pro mid 2012

I currently have a Mac Pro mid 2012. I use VM Fusion on this machine. Recently VMFusion upgrade states it does not support the mid-2012 3.2 GHz Quad Core Xenon processor. The new VMFusion is supported in 2010 Mac Pro "Six Core", "Eight Core" and "Twelve Core". So I would like to upgrade the processor in the 2012 machine. Is this possible? If so how and where?

Of course it is possible. It’s a matter of how deep you pockets are.

It’s just a matter of exchanging the processor trays.

Here’s a listing of available upgrades:

I would love to take mine to a :

12-Core 3.46GHz Xeon and 128GB RAM

just don’t currently have the $1590 to do it.

The Intel 3.46 GHz Six Core CPUs.

This is a straightforward procedure that will take very little time and the result will be a machine with multi-thread performance exceeding the 2017 6 core "trashcan" Mac Pro by an average 60%

UPDATE

What I am researching now is doing it myself and if this will work on my 2009 that has been flashed to 5,1 $289.95
