PlayStation 4 won't use controller please read

right firstly I'm gonna say I have no clue about this stuff and purely on here because my son's ps4 he's 11 has broken and I have no idea what to do. right this is the thing when you turn it on it comes up with an error code and says report error but the control doesn't work it only works in safe mode?? ive called up ps support who told me to do an update via safe mode so I did. the system restarted but still we are stuck at the same screen we were then told to reset the whole system which we dis because he has little to worry about about losing but once again we are back to the same error code and no control working. I will say the control works fine in safe mode. please does anyone know what we need to do I've YouTube it and googled it and basically spent 3 hours trying to find the answer. so as his mum I'm now asking you guys to help me . please don't tell me anything too technical I'm not an old fuddy duddy

just done that. I'm afraid we still have the same error code on start up. but thanks for trying to help. we have just realised that normally you can hear the ps4 start up like a dull whirling noise but we can't hear anything right now? is that normal or is it because it's not starting up properly

i think you mean the hard drive, was the hard drive ever upgraded to a higher capacity

not that I know of. I simply brought it for him and he's been using it since . would i know somehow if it had?
