What attaches to the Touch Bar Cable?

In an effort to clean my logic board, I managed to tear the connector that connects TO the touch bar cable on the Macbook Pro A1706.

I couldn't simply replace the touch bar cable as this isn't the problem. It's the cable that connects to the touch bar cable.

Could someone tell me what part I require in order to replace this?

Sorry to say Apple does not offer a replacement cable or even the touch bar. You'll need to replace the complete uppercase assembly ($$!!) You might find the part directly from China.

I found some full touch bars online that I'll purchase - if I find that that's the part I require

Well, I found one source! For the part: Touch-Bar OLED Display Screen with Cable for A1706 MacBook Pro Retina 2016 I can't speak for the supplier, but its likely worth the risk.

Is it a cable which connects to a controller, or to the Touch Bar itself? If it's a ribbon cable then you're out of luck, better replace the whole part.

It's a little hard to describe but it's the chip/cable (not sure what it's called) that attaches to the Touch Bar Cable. It attaches to the chip part on the left side of the cable in the picture below

From my understanding, it attaches to the Touch Bar - would this be correct?

What I'm trying to ascertain is what I'll need to change specifically. From what I've gathered, I'll need to replace the whole touch bar and that might solve my issue - hard to say and don't want to waste money buying a part that won't fix it.

Yep, ribbon connecting to the socket. Better off replacing the whole unit, but better match up part number, serial, etc to avoid buying a wrong one.

I never seen the internals, but does it come with the Touch ID? If yes, then don't risk it and (sadly) visit an Apple store.

The cable is not removable from the touch bar. You need to replace the entire part. Apple only offers the uppercase as a FRU which is quite expensive! Luckily the parts supplier of the touch bar display subassembly is able to sell them.

The Touch ID pad and its logic are a different part and that is easily removable so you can swap out the uppercase. Take a look at the IFIXIT teardown here: Demontage van de MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar Jump to Step 11 for the scoop on the touch ID.
