Reusing the iMacs Power Supply

Hi everyone!

I'll try to make this as short as possible, but for you to understand:

What I'm trying to do is turning an broken iMac into a Retro-Gaming Machine using a Raspberry Pi. The iMac turns on, but has artifacts and doesn't boot completely (looks like a broken graphics card and / or logic board to me). However, the power supply an the display still work, which is what I need.

To power the display, I already ordered a VGA-Controller board from China, which needs 12V and 4-5A. Even though I do have the right power supply for my controller board, I would love to use the old iMacs power supply - this way I could have only one cable coming out of the iMacs back.

Does anyone know if the iMacs power supply has outgoing wires with 12V? Could I potentially use these?

I hope this isn't too off topic and thanks for the great instructions!

Regards

Niklas

Thanks for replying!

Unfortunately, none of these projects covers the goal I want to achieve. Actually, the fact that I'm want to turn my iMac into a external monitor isn't that important for my question.

What I would like to do is to rewire the 12V wires coming from the iMacs power supply.
