Wake/sleep button not working after battery replacement

I replaced the battery. After putting it back together I had a couple of problems. (1) My password isn’t recognized. (2) The wake/sleep button doesn’t work. I am legally blind and had difficulty even with a magnifier. Did I fail to plug in a connector properly? Does anyone have any idea of what I did wrong? I won’t be using it as a phone. I will use wifi only. Please tell me what I did wrong and how I can fix it. Should I take it to a shop. Or did I break something expensive? Will it cost more to repair then it is worth?

Thank You in Advance. RM

Either the cable for the power / volume button got ripped / damaged which is a PITA to replace. If this is the case I would take it to a phone repair shop that can replace that power button.

If it's pry damage which is missing / damaged small SMD components right next to the sim reader when prying the battery on the logic board size you will need to get that repaired by someone that does board-level repairs for iPhone.

The second route can be pretty expensive depending on who you go to and may cost more than the phone is worth.

First route is okay if you can find a store that fixes the power button issue on the 5s which usually they replace the whole ribbon cable assembly for the power button.

Here is what you are up against when replacing the home button, logic board needs to be removed to get to it:
