IBM T30 won't start up

This laptop hasn't been used in a few years now but before that it was fully working. I tried to turn it on and some lights do come up but none of the fans seem to be running.

I unplugged the battery and plugged it with the charger, unplugged the cmos battery, did the 10 second reset when the battery is out but still nothing.

Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Thanks in advance

Do you get a BIOS splash screen?

Hi @notanexpert

Try reseating your keyboard LVDS connector and ON the laptop again.

I do not get a BIOS splash screen. Sometimes the screen turns on with no display (rarely) but the laptop's components don't seem to be working well.

I tried reseating it but still nothing

There is a fairly common RAM issue with the T30 models that causes the RAM sockets to come unsoldered from the motherboard over time, which would basically disconnect the modules from the computer over time.

The easiest way to get around this is to just replace the motherboard entirely, but if you are more skilled with soldering, then it is an option to just resolder the pins from the RAM slot to the motherboard. There is some helpful information on the ThinkPad forum here that you may find a good read within.

Good luck!
