Touch not working after repair (PSA)

I use very high quality aftermarket parts from a supplier who backs them with a lifetime warranty. The 3d functions almost identical and the color and brightness are almost spot on to OEM. The main reason I use these is because most customers care about cost and nothing more. Atleast, that is my experience ( I fix around 40 phones a month for extra income). Overall, I have very little issues with their screens. I said all that to say this/ask a question.

Today, I attempted to repair an iPhone 8 plus. I have fixed two recently with no problems. After testing the screen before snapping it in, all was well. After installing it all the way the touch functioned fine, but after I locked and unlocked the phone, the touch died. I tried reseating cables, pulling the screen out to sit on cardboard incase of grounding out etc. Nothing worked. I tried another 8 plus screen from a different supplier. This time the touch never worked. I started to panic, because I believed I had blown a fuse or cap that controls the touch. I tested the broken original screen and it worked fine. I tried two more screens with similar results to the first attempt. It worked fine, but after locking and unlocking the phone the touch wouldn't work.

I gave up, since I was out of screens and gave the phone back broken, but working.

Now here's what worries me. I noticed the phone was updated to iOS 11.3 yesterday. I just successfully repaired an iPhone 8 plus yesterday from the same batch of screens. I confirmed with the customer that she had not updated to iOS 11.3. What are the chances that I had 4 bad screens exhibit the same behavior from two suppliers? Im hoping this isn't a glitch in iOS 11.3 and if it is, will it affect screens across all models? Yes, I know it's best to choose original repair parts or at least original refurbished parts, but customers don't want to pay 50 to 60 bucks more on average for a repair even after I explain the differences.

FYI. We buy some parts from this vendor, but not iPhone screens. However this is probably what you are looking for.....

@Chipo Mboshi Nobody can help you at a distance if you have a display hardware problem. If you did the replacement yourself, try reseating the connector on the logic board, it should fit in with a light clicking sound. If you got the screen replaced by a third party, best thing to do is to get back where the job was done.

Honestly hard to tell because I haven't gotten clients wanting to repair iPhone 8 yet.

I've only tried one iPhone 8 screen and closed it touch appeared to still work but this was only for data recovery purposes.

Guessing you've done heaps of iPhone 7 and 7 plus right? Pretty much same procedure to that one.

Yes, I've done a lot of 7 and 7 plus screens. It's very strange. I hoping it's not iOS that's the problem.

I think the signing servers are still active for 11.2.6.

Why don't you download the full firmware for 11.2.6 and see if the phone works properly if you downgrade. Better work quick while they are still signing.

door

Yeah 11.3 and 11.2.6 are currently still being signed by apple servers at this moment.

so this is a issue with the new ios, downgrading it will make a aftermarket screen work. guess its going to mean finding a screen disto that has premium quality screens or waiting to see if they make a patch for it.

I had my iPhone 8+ screen replaced a while ago, which resulted in a lack of audio from earpiece. After getting that replaced, phone was just fine. Now, I just installed a software upgrade (whatever newest one is. 11.3?) and no touch response whatsoever even with umpteen hard resets. Can't reset through iTunes because the passcode is activated and I can't enter it. What can I do? I have no idea how to revert to my old iOS and I have no idea what's going on. Do I have to go to Apple or can the guy who replaced the screen initially fix this for me? Also, I know you have to turn Find my iPhone off for them to provide support, but I can't even do that! Help! I NEED my phone.

Get the person who fixed your phone to downgrade iOS or install an original apple screen. The later may cost you, because the cost of an original screen usually averages $90.

After IOS 12 upgrade the screen on my iphone 7plus was completely frozen. Resetting phone a number of times produced zero results. The only thing that worked for me was to put the phone into DFU mode (Hold power and Volume down button simultaneously untill DFU mode is entered). Then plug phone into Itunes and click restore button but only allow restore process to continue for a few seconds. shut down itunes, unplug cable to phone and hold power and volume button until logo appears. Phone should now work.

Is this still an issue for replacing the screen on the iPhone 8/8+? Or have the more recent ios updates fixed this issue.

Is the broken screen still useable? If so, can you put it back on as a test to see if the touch is still working?

door

You have to get Apple to replace it with their own parts. I had a place fix my screen but then an update happened and the screen was not compatible with the new software. Only Apple screen replacement fixed the problem. Unfortunately, getting a third party to fix it voids warranty.

door

Did they just charge you out of pocket cost for the repair or would they not even touch it thanks to the third party initial repair? @c_lag

door

Apple took care of it but charged me the price of a full screen repair. So I had to pay for two screen repairs basically

For iPhone 8+, changing the screen will probably result in having the touch not working. But if you install the screen with disconnecting the fingerprint it’ll work. Try that!
