What is the max amount of ram this can take?

Hi as probably you all know most Macs can have more ram than what Apple says it can have so I’m here to ask if this Mac mini can take 2GB of ram instead of 1GB? I’m not sure if they make any 2GB DDR ram card so I’m not sure if it would work cause it only has one slot.

Let me know what you think. I have 1GB installed currently on my 1.5GHz 10.4.11 Mac mini.

All of the PowerPC based systems can only address 1 GB of physical RAM. At the time the systems video graphics had a fixed memory address just above the 1,048,576 KB mark and couldn't be shifted.

Between the system CPU and firmware and the way the OS worked in these older systems you couldn't add more memory like we can today.

Ok. Great just checking. On the activity monitor it says I have 2GB of virtual memory and 1GB physical memory. Is virtual memory hard drive space acting as ram?

It also says I have 64MB of graphics memory.

Yes virtual RAM is storage space acting as RAM (HDD or SSD)

The 64 MB of graphics RAM is fixed at a set memory address, which is why you can't add more RAM even-though the memory addressing of the CPU could in theory access it PowerPC G4.

Got it. Thanks for the info.
