MacBook Pro Keyboard+Touchpad Unit as external device for iMac

Hey,

I am a huge fan of the combined Keyboard and Trackpad in my Macbook Pro. It is so convenient for me to use it that I would never switch to a normal mouse + keyboard combination (especially because I got so used to the gestures (like switching between desktops with 3 /4 fingers).

Nontheless I'd prefer to buy an iMac (screen size, power, etc) for my home.

The ideal solution would be to have something like the combined trackpad and keyboard from the macbook as an external device to my iMac (with the nice metallic body). So basically instead of buying magic keyboard and magic trackpad I'd prefer to have one thing like the current MBP without its display and without the speakers.

Since I think Apple will probably and unfortunately not produce something like that, I was thinking, theoretically, if it would be possible to convert a MBP to such an external input device?

I think you need to do some research online as I've seen combo USB keyboard/trackpads offered over the years. I think that would be the best direction.

As to modifying a MacBook Pro it would be expensive endeavor! Finding one that you could hack up and even then you have quite a few hurdles to over come.
