How to determine if Flex Cable or Top Case defective?

Hey guys,

my A1181 stopped working from now to then.

So I checked all voltages and stuff, everything was fine. The last try was the one I should have checked first: Just shortened the two pads on the board and voilá, everything is back.

So how can I see what I should replace - just the cable or the whole topcase? My multimeter probes are too large for a continuity test on the cable. But at least it looks good :)

Are there any tests I could do with the topcase or is there anything I can fix without totally damaging it? I see it is held together by just plastic "bolts" which would be destroyed. Am I correct?

I did not see a Teardown of the Topcase revealing its power and data lines so I’m curious if this is even fixable.

Cheers

Jonas

There are 17 machines with the A1181 designation. Please pick one: http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-loo...

Dear mayer, The question is regarding the top case which is the same on all models (but the flex cable) - I posted all relevant information. I was more rude before I read your "about" - though I’m still wondering why it is important which model is below the top case. It’s a 820 2496A. Regards to LBB

I ordered another topcase from classifieds and it turned out that it was the flex cable! Weird as it wasnt moved so I would not have the idea that this cable can be worn out like the one for the inverter or similar which is moved oftn.
