When I attach the rotating brush attachment, the brush will start but as soon as I put it down on a rug, it dies suddenly. There are no clogs in the hose and I have been cleaning the vacuum regularly. What can I do to fix it?

The Dyson Cinetic Animal uses a completely air-driven brush head. The brush-bar-reset is similar and you only need a coin to do it, but if clearing clogs and strings does not work, you can dive into the mechanism. I've had mine apart down to the bearings, which are sealed and tend to fail easily. There is a poorly engineered gear driving a belt just inside the turbine. The gear teeth engage only the very edges of the belt teeth; the rest of the gear shaft is smooth (where it would otherwise grip the belt teeth across the whole width of the belt). So, as the bearings wear out the sides of the belt get shredded and the whole thing fails.
The only fix then would be to replace the bearings and turbine belt. Dyson does not sell parts. They sell "tools", and that is a $65 "tool". The rest of the design is fixit-friendly.
Maybe if iFixit can cut a deal to get access to the individual Dyson parts…

This happened to me today. I don’t think there is a fix after it is clean. Dyson is sending me a new Vaccum and told me to throw mine out.

Go to the dyson website: I think it’s dyson.com. they have a chat box and they will walk you through your issue and if they can’t they will send you the part you need free of charge:)…I LOVE MY DYSON!!!!

I just bought the dc47 canister vacuum and every time I use it on my are rug it stops? It works fine on my hard wood but it won't work at all on my area rugs.

Same with mine! I just bought a replacement and it is still doing this!!
Get a new head. Or get it repaired by Dyson. I did both and it's been working fine for over a year.

My multi floor barrel Dyson vacuum power head is not spinning .. Can you tell me if there is a reset button or something I’m not pressing.. Helen

I have a similar issue and can see the connector between the bin and the tube is fairly loose which is probably not making the circuit required to drive the brush head. I will take mine apart later and determine if the continuity is good. Alternatively, I will replace the bin which will come with a new connector.

Dyson chat is the way to go. They are shipping us a new cleaner brush with no charge and registered our product for us to ensure the warranty.

Would it be the same with the DC49 head do you think? Brush head refusing to turn. I’ve cleaned it thoroughly and checked the suction, so there’s no obvious problem…. help!

As I was pulling out hairs and strings out of the brush roller, the brush shifted. My first thought was WOW something else to brag about my dyson….the brush comes out completely for easy cleaning. HOWEVER, my logical replacement…returning it to its original position and using a coin to lock it in position…and nothing…the brush is no longer turning and doing its thing when I turn on my dyson!! Help…what can I do to revive my wonderful machine????
