My iPod nano stopped playing music

I uploaded a bunch of new music and now NONE of the music works. I press play and goes right back to the song listings. I can't afford to replace this. What should I do?

I managed to fix this problem myself by formatting my ipod and then putting all the music back on. Naturally, I backed up all of my music first.
