Is this even close to being repairable or is it a waste of time?

Found this logic board on eBay for a early 2011, has really bad water damage, probably not fixable but do you think I should get it just for practicing and finding shorts?

You could probably learn more from a moldy loaf of bread.

It's .99 cents starting bid with free shipping, I will put a bid in if it is still under five bucks and is about to end. Thanks!

Even if I put it thru ultrasonic and remove all shorts would it be worth it or would it take me like weeks to fix?

At under $5 you might be able to salvage some parts.

@gigabit87898 and @mayer, I totally agree with you guys! I would buy it myself if you weren't just to tinker with and get capacitors from. A few weeks ago I took apart a 10 y.o. broken camera, when I came to the flash unit, I accidentally touched the contacts on a black round bar marked "315 V."

@pccheese bet that hurt.. Those things scare me unless I know they are discharged.

@gigabit87898 honestly, I wouldn't get the board as a donor board or to practice on. Only buy non-liquid damaged boards from China to use parts from, never use parts from a liquid damaged board.

This has clearly been through a lot, so I would not even bother to repair it, more will just go wrong with it. It will also give wrong readings if you are using it to compare the values to another one you try and fix...

I know, most of the power related chips are wher the water got the most, irony. On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely is it that I can repiar it? 0.5?

Try... Know what? Don't Try.

@gigabit87898 if a customer gave it to me to repair, I would be hesitant to try and repair it, since I know it will likely come back under warranty, or will be a waste of time. I wouldn't spend a single penny buying this junk

Even if I get it to work, I wouldn't put it into a laptop. I wanted to get the logic board, fan, dc-in board, and hard drive, and cables and then put those into a case and turn it into a Mac mini sort of thing. Or a time capsule for my iMac.

@gigabit87898 I would recommend avoiding eBay when buying broken Macs, most have been checked out before and are unfixable. You could buy this, but I wouldn't say it would be long lasting if it could be fixed, and the amount of time you would have to put in to get to this stage would make it uneconomic.

Remember, you will need a trackpad (has a sensor), wifi board, antenna and keyboard (to turn on, unless you solder on a makeshift button to boot it) if you want to use it as a Mac Mini. You will also need thunderbolt to work to output picture, which probably doesn't work.

Go for it if you want, but assume the money you spend on this to be spent money, don't get your hopes up that it can be fixed.
