push the button towards the back of the camera. With a single edged razor blade or some thin strong metal, pry the lid away from the center of the camera. Apply steady pressure on the door. Mine had a corroded battery. Took a little force to push the battery door to the side.

@rfsmith48, Roger, while pushing release try press down and wiggling the door a little side to side and then pull up on door. Once open put a little lube on the latch and mechanism. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

normally anyone with a lick of sense would have already done all of the above :( I made the comment when I decided to google a solution stating, I see so many of these cameras in the hock shops and thrift stores with broken battery doors, now I know why :( If you do this BS you will end up with yet another camera with a broken door. :( Boo Hiss

Linda my dear, you have totally shot down L Pfaff, but I fail to see your solution. When you fail to use the camera for an extended period of time, the batteries will corrode and cause the batteries to seize on the metal connectors on the door itself, which is what happened to mine. I came here looking for a solution, not sarcasm.

Thanks for the jiggle suggestion! I thought it would just pop up when I released the latch but, it had to slide to the left as well. Appreciate your help!

Push the cover release button to the back of the camera. With a single edge razor blade or some similar thin rigid device, pry the latch in the seem closest to the center of the camera (this is where the hinge is). Work it back and forth continuing to press the release button back. Took a little force, but eventually it did slide. Battery corrosion was the issue.

Had a similar problem, the door slid a bit but not all the way down to the point where it can be lifted. The cause is corrosion of the sliding mechanism which is made of metal (the metal plate that you can see when it slides fully down). My solution was to spray just a tiny bit of WD40 into the small gap that did open, 45 degrees along the bottom edge. The idea is to get just a bit of the WD40 on the metal plate of the sliding mechanism. Then slide up and down until it slides freely.
