Why did the bottom half of my screen stop working?
There is a thin crack barely noticeable though the middle and from the crack down, the phone doesn't respond to touch.

Your screen is broken and you should replace a new one. If your phone is under warranty, send it back to where you get it. Otherwise you should go to a repair shop ask for a help.

Your screen is a "packet" with many layers of tech, haha easy explained, the crack might be tiny, but if it is deep enough it will damage the digitizer or lcd, or just simply the whole thing, but as you refer for, is the touch defective. it is kinda self explaining i would think this answer?
I am sorry if this is a bad answer or really bad written but it is the best i could write in english, haha sorry.

So how do you fix it... How do you make it work again.
Replace the screen.

Parts can be found on Ebay if you want to repair it yourself. Otherwise take it to a Repair Shop.
