MacBook air keyboard and trackpad unresponsive

I've got an old Macbook Air that boots fine, but when it starts up, the trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the input hardware, because they work fine with another logic board in the machine. The weird thing is, I'm able to do an SMC reset, so the logic board (820-3023-A in this case), can still receive input. I'm also unable to use an external keyboard and mouse, though I haven't tried bluetooth. I was not able to reset or the PRAM or start in safe mode, only an SMC reset works on this logic board.

This is a Known issue with MacBook Air and Pros in Mid 2011-2012 due to a trackpad and keyboard input device update here is what you should try.

------------You need a functional keyboard to make this work-----------

1 Press Control-Fn-F7 (this enables all commands via the keyboard).

2 If the Updater application is on the screen, go to step 7. If the Updater application is not on the screen, continue to step 3.

3 Press Command-Tab to go to the Finder.

4 Press Command-Shift-U to open the the Utilities folder.

5 Use the arrow keys to navigate to "MacBook Trackpad Update" so it is highlighted.

6 Press Command-O to start the application.

7 The word "Update" should be highlighted in blue. If it is not, press the Tab key to highlight it.

8 Press the space bar to initiate the update.

9 Press Return to confirm OK.

10 Enter your administrator password, then press return.

11 Allow the update to finish. Do not unplug the computer, let it sleep, or interrupt the update while it is in progress.

12 The word "Updated" with a green checkmark appears in the progress box when the update is complete. The trackpad should now be functional

Thanks for your answer! I'd love to try this, but I'm not able to interface with this machine in any way, including plugging in an external keyboard and mouse. I'm also not able to SSH in, or access is via Bonjour. I'm assuming if I could log in, I could have a user with remote access auto-login, but I'd need to somehow be able to interface with the machine. Is there any way of interacting with this thing that you can think of?

If I had it in front of me id take it apart and examine all the connections are in the proper order, try taking it into the nearest repair center not unless you want to risk it. Here is a LAST ditch effort. If its a removable battery Remove it and fiddle with it, keep inserting it and taking it out while testing the keyboard/trackpad at the same time. If the battery were to "swell" at the end of its lifespan it can put stress on the ribbon cable located right above it. here is a link to this guy on apple forums who fixed this issue. --- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/136...

So I managed to get the machine booted and working using an alternate logic board, but I don't see "MacBook Trackpad Update" in the Utilities directory, nor can I find it anywhere online. Can you link to where I might find it?

Hi,

I have a MacBook Air A1369 that’s been power off for long time because I don’t have a power cable. I buy a new power cable, MacBook Air power on perfectly but some keyboard keys won’t work. I tried to reset using Command + R but this R key won’t work. I ordered a new keyboard in this page but I don’t see a guide to replace this keyboard. Please let me know where I can find this guide.
