Camera has poor photo quality

What is up with the photo quality? It takes great pictures outside in the sunlight but poor photos inside lit up areas. The bad thing is there is no way to edit the photo quality or camera lighting and sensitivity.

Hi Austin

The reason for the difference in image quality is that there is at huge difference in the amount of light in the two situations.

The difference is much bigger than what we experience because our eyes are able to compensate. And eventhough the camera is able to adjust in ways similar to our eyes it is not as succesfull. This is always the case in photography. Usually the first thing you give up in order to compensate is the sharpness in the depth (when the hole to take in light is expanded). The next thing to go is the general sharpness (when the grainsize on the film or reciever is increased). After that there is only the light level to lower.

Besides that the lenses on small cameras, such as in iPods, are tiny compared "real" cameras. And there are reasons why real cameras still feature lenses of that size. Those reasons become more evident in difficult conditions.

That's why but it's not going to improve your indoor iamges, I guess.

indoor/artificial lighting images always have a yellow cast to them! Our eyes and mind compensate for this. the only way to make indoor images better is to apply more light.. in a digital or SLR camera this would be to lengthen exposure time or apply a flash lighting. As neither of these is present in the ipod camera then you will have to play around with the final image in an photo editing suite.

Well you know what could fix it? Or could it be a defect in it? Because I've had other generations and another had a defect.

From your description I can't tell if there is a defect. It is imposible to get the same results indoors as outdoors, so a somewhat lesser quality is to be expected. If you know someone with a similar device you can compare quality to see if there is a defect or not. If there is no defect there is no fix except lowering expectations. If there is a defect I would get Apple to fix it if it's still under warranty.

Well it's not a DSLR neither a camera with night vision, so you can't expect it to perform like "see everything in every detail in no light" (the statement doesn't work for DSLR)

My five cents (or $1 maybe) would be to install the app Camera+ I don't buy hardly any apps but this one does wonders to your pictures. It is like a small Photoshop on your Touch/iPhone but just much easier to use. You can fix up pretty much of the taken picture before you save it.
