Is the logic board in both model the same?

Hi, I own an A1226 MBP with a broken Logic Board. Can I install the A1260 model on it? Thanks ;)

Hi,

I have actually done this motherboard swap. I upgraded a 2.4 GHz 1226 to a 2.5 GHz 1260.

It is not a straight swap. You will also need the heatsink from the 1260.

It does not stop there though. If you want this to be as pain free as possible I would also suggest obtaining the bottom case from the 1260. There is one screw hole that for the motherboard and heatsink that is slightly off from the bottom case of the 1226. The rest of all screw holes, and clips, mounts, etc are all the same.

On the replacement that I had done, I used a dremel tool and opened up the holes on the motherboard and heatsink just slightly. I have been doing this type of thing for many years, and felt very comfortable with such a task. Many are not, and in hindsight, I do think that widening a hole through the heatsink is not necessarily a "most brilliant" maneuver, and I think if I ever do this again, I will get the other bottom case.

BTW, the machine in question, is still running like a champ 15 months later, without any issues.

Hope this gives you the information you were seeking.

Cheers

Murias

You should be able to exchange it with any of the following logic boards listed here: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Logic Board Replacement

But I would stay with the A1226 to be certain.

MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1226) 2.2 GHz Logic Board

MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1226) 2.4 GHz Logic Board

MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1260) 2.4 GHz Logic Board

MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1260) 2.5 GHz Logic Board

Just did the swap. I haven't really tested it out but it appears it can be done. Make sure you have the right heatsink as they are different and you have to move a standoff on the bottom of the case but so far so good.

I would like to know the same. I have an a1260 but found a a1226 board. I'm trying to get the FireWire ports running again. Aside from that my logic board is fine.

Great to see you Murias were able to do the swap! Did you have to exchange thermal sensors, keyboard or other parts also?

Hi,

I put the logic board from A1260 into a A1226. One stand- off needs to be moved as noted above (I used a block of wood and a quick whack to remove and super glue to reattach).

You also need the heat sink matching the donor board (A1260 in my case) but otherwise use everything that's on the patient chassis (top/bottom & lid).
