"Squeal" control shaft broken on Pignose, Hog 20 amp...can I bypass it

I am wondering if I could bypass this control as it isn't necessary(?). It appears to be broken in the "0" setting an no guitar sound comes out from the amp. (Only "crackling, electrical sound.)
