How to test a motor/switch?
My Craftsman shop vac is not working. I checked the wire and electricity is flowing from the socket through the wire. How do I test the switch and the motor?

To test the switch, unplug the power cord, put a multimeter on resistance the lowest range available (typically 200 Ohms), and measure the resistance across the switch with it on. The resistance should be less than 1 ohm. To test the motor, I would check for 120 volts across the two wires going to it with the switch on, and the power cord plugged in. If you have that voltage, check the brushes. If the brushes look good, replace the motor. This will also be a second test for the switch.
