iPod Touch 5th Generation Problem

Okay. This is really weird. I wouldn't be posting this if someone else had had a similar problem, but I couldn't find anything remotely close. I really hope that someone can have some kind of solution for this.

So I visited a college today, and tried to connect to their wifi. I tried several times, but I could never fully connect. Later, when I got home, I began to have some problems. My iPod still says that I'm connected to their wifi, even though it is miles away. When I try to click on the wifi tab so I can change which wifi I'm using, it doesn't respond and freezes the app. When I try to shut off my iPod, nothing happens no matter how long I hold it for. I've tried using both the button and assistive touch, but neither of them work. When I tried to plug it in to a charger, it never registered that it was charging and continued to lose battery. I'm afraid that if it runs out of battery, it'll never turn back on again. However, it is mostly useless, as the wifi wont work anymore.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Anything would be appreciated.

Is your system set to do the updates automatically? If so then you might have gotten the 9.3 update. Try to connect it to a computer with ITunes and if it asks you to update it to 9.3.1 say yes.
