Why does my controller keep disconnecting?

My controller seems to disconnect whenever i move it down flat. When i move it upright verticle it stays connected for a short while then disconnectd also. At first i thought it was the cord, so i bought a bluetooth usb adapter for my pc, but the problem is still happening without the cord. Do i need a new controller or can this be fixed?
