The last few weeks my phone has not been able to play audio via Bluetooth to any speaker I try it with. Whenever I hit play loud popping and crackling sounds happen.
I was wondering if I needed to replace or fix any of the hardware or whether it would be software issue?

First backup and then perform hard reset and see if it is software issue. If nothing change then you will know that is hardware issue.

It could be your wifi router interfering with your bt headphone.

There are no wifi routers in car....it seems that cracking noise started ti appear with new ios 10.3.2. Ive been using same phone via bluetooth on several cars for long time and never noticef crackling until now with those recent apple updates. For one moment i thought its the brand new sound system in my cadi thats doing it. But when i switch to radio there is no crackling sound, so its not speakers pheww....
After scouring the internet for answers to this very question I started messing around with my phone settings. Because like a lot of people nothing changed with my BT speakers. Not in my car, not my sound bar, or my headphones. The problem came from an update in iTunes. You need to go into “settings” and scroll down to “music” and turn OFF the “sound check”.

If you got an iPhone go settings then scroll down to music and tap EQ and check if you have it on bass booster if you don’t and it still sounds like that try putting it on late night, I worked for me.
